Phase3D expands real-time monitoring to Colibrium Additive M2 Series 5

Phase3D, based in Chicago, Illinois, USA, has released its Fringe Inspection™ M2 Series 5 Kit, bringing its measurement-based quality assurance technology to the Colibrium Additive M2 Series 5 metal Additive Manufacturing platform.
The M2 Series 5 Kit will enable manufacturers to view every layer of a build in real time, enabling earlier defect detection, improved yield, and a complete, traceable record of the manufacturing process.

“The M2 Series 5 is a workhorse of metal Additive Manufacturing, and with this release, we’re giving operators the ability to see, and measure, every layer in real time,” stated Niall O’Dowd, PhD, Founder & CEO of Phase3D. “The ASTRO America Challenge, a national competition to advance in-situ monitoring for AM, gives us the opportunity to demonstrate that unit-based, actionable inspection can make AM more reliable, scalable, and cost-effective.”

Part 2: Scaling industrial production in Long Beach

Qualification remains one of the largest barriers to scaling Additive Manufacturing in the United States, states Phase3D, especially for aerospace, defence, and other sectors where part failure is not an option. US manufacturers are under pressure to move beyond one-off prototyping and deliver certified, repeatable production at scale. In this environment, in-situ process monitoring is becoming essential to meet quality standards without slowing production.

Fringe Inspection addresses this challenge by delivering objective, unit-based measurement data for every layer, ensuring that qualification can be achieved with greater speed, accuracy, and confidence.
The M2 Series 5 Kit builds on Phase3D’s participation in the ASTRO America In-Situ Monitoring Challenge, where the company demonstrated how to capture key data, including time-lapse imagery and performance logs, to validate the technology in a true production environment.
