Phase3D, based in Chicago, Illinois, USA, has officially expanded Fringe Inspection to support the Renishaw 500 series of Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) Additive Manufacturing machines, including the 500Q, 500D, and 500Flex.

Developed in collaboration with research institution HRL Laboratories, the product is intended to directly support the DARPA SURGE initiative, a push for the development of quality-assured Additive Manufacturing parts production in the United States.

Chanel: When manufacturing process becomes part of luxury value

“Collaborating with Phase3D allowed us to unlock new insights into the printing process. Fringe Inspection augments our in-situ sensor suite with high-fidelity, layer-by-layer data, which greatly enhances our ability to assess part quality while printing,” stated Eric Clough, R&D Group Lead at HRL Laboratories.

The 500 Kit is designed for simple deployment, with installation often completed in just twenty-four hours. It is noninvasive and fully reversible, allowing manufacturers to easily restore the Additive Manufacturing machine to its original state.

“This expansion into the Renishaw 500 line is a major step forward for our customers and for the industry,” said Niall O’Dowd, PhD, founder and CEO of Phase3D. “We’ve built Fringe Inspection to meet manufacturers where they are, and now, that includes some of the most advanced Powder Bed Fusion systems in production today. We are ecstatic to be involved in the historic DARPA SURGE initiative with HRL Laboratories.”
