Metal Additive Manufacturing machine maker, HBD, has announced it will unveil its new Powder Closed-Loop Management System at this year’s Formnext 2024, as well as showcasing other recent developments supporting the production of high-performance additively manufactured parts.

The Powder Closed-Loop Management System integrates the handling and processing of metal powders. Specifically designed to pair with HBD’s AM machines, the system automates powder management across multiple machines in a production cell. This closed-loop solution enables consistency and quality, while allowing for flexible scaling. It can be expanded by integrating additional machines or retrofitting existing ones.

At the show, the HBD 400 six-laser Additive Manufacturing machine will be used to illustrate advancements in high-performance part creation. The machine is equipped with an automatic stitching calibration system, a function said to reduce calibration from up to an hour to under five minutes. This, in turn, can increase build efficiency by 2-3 times. The company has stated that the faster setup and increased productivity makes the machine well suited to large-scale production.

HBD will also highlight its support-free Additive Manufacturing. In the aerospace sector, HBD’s technology is able to reduce support structures in turbine components by a reported 96%, minimising waste and enabling a more streamlined production process.

Also on display will be HBD’s AMES X 3D Printing Production Intelligent Management System. This is designed to provide real-time feedback and streamline operations across various production environments. By integrating Additive Manufacturing, logistics, and processing, AMES X is intended to ensure efficient and seamless production workflows.
