ASTM International’s October in-person standards meetings will now take place remotely
September 1, 2021
Global standards developer ASTM International has announced that due to ongoing safety concerns for members and staff regarding COVID-19, the October Committee Week in-person meetings have been cancelled and will now take place virtually.
The decision was based on several factors which include input from ASTM International members whose organisations are increasingly concerned with travel. It added that most participating committees were opting to meet virtually following concerns with high case counts and hospitalisations in Atlanta, Georgia (where the in-person meetings were located).
ASTM International stated that it will continue to review information and recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and other governmental bodies.
Decisions about upcoming independent meetings will reportedly be made by the respective executive subcommittees working with ASTM headquarters.
Looking forward, ASTM International will rely on these and other relevant criteria and input points to assess the status of ASTM’s future standards development meetings and events, including the November and December committee weeks.
