MX3D earns DNV AMC3 certification for WAAM

MX3D, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, has received a DNV Certificate of Qualification at Additive Manufacturing Criticality 3 (AMC3) level for its Directed Energy Deposition-Arc (DED-Arc), also known as Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), facility, in accordance with DNV-ST-B203. According to DNV, MX3D is the first company globally to achieve AMC3 certification for DED-Arc/WAAM technology.
MX3D describes AMC3 as the most stringent qualification level under DNV-ST-B203. The certification covers MX3D’s facility, software and WAAM processes for the production of critical metal components for maritime, defence and energy applications.

The qualification involved testing, material validation and quality controls relating to the company’s robotic Additive Manufacturing machines and proprietary MetalXL software.
“Achieving the DNV AMC3 certification is a monumental milestone for MX3D and the entire WAAM industry,” stated Gijs van der Velden, CEO of MX3D. “This confirms that our technology and processes meet the most stringent quality and safety standards required for producing highly critical metal parts.”

Dr Sastry Kandukuri, Global Practice Lead on Additive Manufacturing at DNV’s Technology Centre in Oslo, Norway, added, “On behalf of the DNV team, I congratulate MX3D on achieving a DNV Certificate of Qualification for its Additive Manufacturing facility in accordance with DNV-ST-B203.”
