Additive Drives GmbH, Dresden, Germany, has entered a joint development agreement with Daikin Chemicals, Osaka, Japan, to expand on its existing collaboration. Both companies are working on the development of new high-performance materials that could help shape the future of electric drives.

The developed materials are characterised by excellent dielectric properties. Thinner layer thicknesses and partial discharge-free insulation are already possible and enable the development of new motors with high efficiency and long service life.

These materials are noted as the the best in their class in terms of long-term temperature behaviour and chemical resistance. Test results have shown improved insulation properties of the conductors in the stator, as well as an improved overall efficiency of the machine compared to equivalent motors. The cooperation is designed to be a multi-year partnership.

“Additive Drives is pursuing the goal to make electrification simpler, better and more sustainable! The joint development is a great step towards taking electric drives to a new level all over the world,” said Axel Helm, CEO and co-founder of Additive Drives.
