Virginia Tech to host AM² Hub conference and Workforce Workshop

Virginia’s Additive Manufacturing & Advanced Materials Tech Hub, an industry-led consortium of over 50 partners dedicated to growing and accelerating manufacturing in Virginia and across America, has announced the inaugural AM² Hub Conference. Scheduled to take place on September 15, 2025, at The Inn at Virginia Tech, the event is designed to bring together industry leaders in Additive Manufacturing and advanced materials.

The event is intended to connect attendees with industry leaders who are leveraging AM and advanced materials to transform how they design, create, and innovate. It will offer both expert one-on-one sessions and collaborative peer breakouts.

As part of the conference, attendees will have the opportunity to tour several of Virginia Tech’s research facilities. These guided visits offer a closer look at the labs’ leading advancements in Additive Manufacturing and advanced materials, including:

  • DREAMS Lab (Design, Research and Education for Additive Manufacturing Systems)
  • Kroehling Advanced Materials Foundry
  • SMART Lab (Smart Manufacturing Analytics Research & Technology)
  • ISE Learning Factory
  • LAMPS (Laboratory for Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Sensing)
  • Soft Materials and Structures Lab
  • Manufacturing and Tribology Laboratory
  • Tallon Ceramic Lab and Advanced Manufacturing Team Characterization Lab
  • Polymer Composite and Materials Laboratory

The Future Manufacturing Workforce Workshop

In collaboration with the AM² Hub Conference, Virginia Tech will host the Future Manufacturing Workforce Workshop on September 16-17 at The Inn. The workshop aims to identify real workforce needs and guide the development of a white paper that will directly inform Virginia Tech’s curriculum.

The workshop will also feature research presentations and a number of lab tours.
