TU Berlin commissions dual-laser AMCM M290-2 for metal AM research

The Materials for Additive Manufacturing research group at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) in Germany has commissioned a new AMCM M290-2 Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) Additive Manufacturing machine from AMCM GmbH, based in Starnberg, Germany.
The AMCM M290-2 is built around the established EOS M 290 machine, with AMCM configurations offering modified laser and process capabilities for research and specialist industrial applications.

The AMCM M290-2 is equipped with two 1 kW Yb fibre lasers, build platform heating up to 200°C and optical tomography (OT) for process monitoring.
The research group stated, “We have successfully completed the machine training on the new AMCM M290-2 and are now producing our first parts.”

TU Berlin’s installation is expected to support research into materials development, process optimisation and monitoring, with the optical tomography capability providing data on conditions during the build process.
The group now plans to investigate the machine’s capabilities in upcoming research projects.
