Trumpf and SiMa.ai partner to develop laser technology with artificial intelligence

Trumpf, based in Ditzingen, Germany, and SiMa.ai, San Jose, California, USA, have announced a partnership to develop lasers with artificial intelligence (AI). The goal is to equip several of TRUMPF’s laser systems with AI technology, including ones for welding, cutting and marking, as well as metal powder Additive Manufacturing.

“AI has high strategic relevance for TRUMPF. Our expertise in laser processes and manufacturing helps us to develop smart software for production purposes. SiMa.ai is the ideal partner for this next big step towards intelligent industrial solutions,” stated Richard Bannmüller, CTO of TRUMPF Laser Technology.

Through the collaboration, Trumpf will contribute its laser application experience, while SiMa.ai provides its machine learning system on chip (MLSoC) technology. At Trumpf, approximately ninety employees worldwide are working on AI, primarily in product development.
