Tronix3D plans $4 million Additive Manufacturing expansion in Pittsburgh

Tronix3D, based in Pittsburgh, USA, has reported plans to invest nearly $4 million to expand its Additive Manufacturing operations in Allegheny County. The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) has offered a $200,000 Pennsylvania First grant towards the project, which is expected to create 47 jobs over three years, while retaining 18 existing full-time positions.
Tronix3D is more than tripling its production space, expanding from 344 m2 to 1,115 m2. The expansion will increase the company’s production capacity and allow it to serve clients in the defence and robotics industries. The investment will also support the purchase of new manufacturing equipment.

“Tronix3D’s decision to expand here will strengthen Pittsburgh’s role in developing cutting-edge technologies that support industries from robotics and aerospace to defence — all while creating real opportunities for Pennsylvanians throughout Allegheny County,” stated Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania.
Tronix3D is an Additive Manufacturing company offering a range of technologies, including Cold Metal Fusion (CMF) for the production of titanium parts. CMF uses a laser-based powder bed process to selectively fuse polymer-coated metal powder to form a green part. This stage is followed by debinding and sintering to achieve a final metallic part. Its work supports the robotics, automotive, aerospace, medical and defence industries.
“Tronix3D is grateful for the Commonwealth’s support as we expand our advanced manufacturing operations in Pittsburgh,” said Mike Vindler, CEO, Tronix3D. “This investment will allow us to increase our production capacity, create 47 new jobs over the next three years, and continue supporting critical industries including robotics, defence, aerospace, and Physical AI right here in Pennsylvania.”

“Pennsylvania is building a stronger, more innovative economy by investing in companies that are pushing the boundaries of advanced manufacturing,” added Rick Siger, Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). “Tronix3D’s expansion is a great example of how we’re helping innovative businesses grow, bring cutting-edge technologies to market, and create good-paying jobs right here in the Commonwealth. Under Governor Shapiro’s leadership, we’re making strategic investments that strengthen our manufacturing base and ensure Pennsylvania remains competitive in the industries shaping our future.”
