SLM Solutions, Lübeck, Germany, announced that it has received two orders for its NXG XII 600 Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) Additive Manufacturing machine from Sintavia, LLC, Hollywood, Florida, USA, a manufacturer of advanced propulsion and thermodynamic systems.

“It is very clear that future flight and launch OEMs will depend on complex mechanical systems enabled by additive technology,” stated Brian Neff, founder and CEO, Sintavia. “The sheer size and efficiency of the NXG Xll 600 platform will greatly accelerate this profound modality shift. We are looking forward to unlocking its benefits on behalf of our aerospace, defence, and space customers.”

The NXG XII 600 contains twelve 1000 W lasers and a build envelope of 600 x 600 x 600 mm, which enables the production of large-scale components.

The efficiency and capabilities of the NXG XII 600 were reportedly tested on a benchmark part for Sintavia that proved to be one of the most challenging builds to date. The part, a 174 kg Inconel shrouded impeller with an exposure area of more than 50%, was successfully manufactured in under week, allowing Sintavia to enter serial production without further testing once the first machine is delivered.

Charlie Grace, Chief Sales Officer, SLM Solutions, added, “We are excited to strengthen our strategic relationship with Sintavia. With the new additions to its fleet, Sintavia can manufacture the most challenging and oversized applications for aerospace, defence, and space customers at warp speed. There is no doubt that the amazing capabilities of the NXG Xll 600, coupled with the strong market reach of Sintavia, will enable significant innovation and success.”
