Phillips Federal to support US Marines field exercise

Phillips Corporation, Federal Division (Phillips Federal), headquartered in Hanover, Maryland, USA, has announced that it will play a key role in the field exercise at Camp Pendleton, which will be executed by the 1st Maintenance Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) from April 28 to May 8, 2026. The exercise will focus on sustaining operations in austere environments and strengthening combat readiness.

Phillips Federal will operationalise advanced manufacturing capabilities at the tactical edge. These capabilities will enable Marines to perform critical maintenance and repair work and drone production directly in the field, accelerating mission readiness, states the company.

In collaboration with its Additive Manufacturing partners, Phillips Additive Hybrid, EOS, Markforged, BigRep, and 3YOURMIND, Phillips Federal will lead a fully integrated expeditionary manufacturing ecosystem designed for forward-operating conditions. Technologies supporting the exercise include hybrid Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), a form of Directed Energy Deposition (DED), the EOS M290 and EOS P 3 Next platforms, the Markforged X7, BigRep VIIO 250, and 3YOURMIND’s part identification and MES capabilities.

Phillips Federal’s contribution is led by Patrick Tucker, Colonel, US Marine Corps (Ret.), Strategic Business Development Manager at Phillips Federal, who previously served as a Regimental Commander within I Marine Expeditionary Force from 2018 to 2020.

“Phillips Federal is uniquely positioned to operationalise advanced manufacturing through our ability to integrate additive and subtractive technologies into scalable, deployable solutions tailored for austere environments,” said Tucker. “We are advancing containerised manufacturing systems designed for tactical air mobility, forward operating bases, and expeditionary advanced base operations—enabling production in remote locations that were previously considered too constrained to support manufacturing.”

He continued, “The 1st Marine Logistics Group and 1st Maintenance Battalion are the perfect partners with their emphasis on applying advanced manufacturing within the contested bubble to ensure forward sustainment and drone production at the very tip of the spear.”

Together, these solutions will demonstrate how advanced manufacturing can be deployed and integrated into real-world military operations to enhance sustainment, increase responsiveness, and improve operational flexibility.

This exercise reflects the Marine Corps’ continued emphasis on rapidly adopting and integrating advanced technologies to support distributed operations. By enabling on-demand manufacturing in the field, Phillips Federal and its partners are helping redefine how the warfighter is equipped, supported, and sustained, delivering faster solutions and mission-ready performance when it matters most.
