Oerlikon commissions first ATLIX xBUILD 5000 metal AM machine

Oerlikon, headquartered in Pfäffikon, Switzerland, has commissioned an ATLIX xBUILD 5000 Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) Additive Manufacturing machine at its facility in Huntersville, North Carolina, USA.
Reportedly the first production installation of the xBUILD 5000 worldwide, the machine will expand Oerlikon’s manufacturing capacity for components used in the aerospace, defence and semiconductor industries.

Designed for serial production, the ATLIX xBUILD 5000 features a build volume of 500 × 500 × 400 mm and four 1 kW lasers. It also incorporates an automated build module conveyance system, which removes a completed build module while simultaneously loading a replacement. This is said to reduce downtime between builds to as few as fifteen minutes, supporting continuous, around-the-clock production.
“We are pleased to continue strengthening our partnership with ATLIX and are excited to add these innovative systems to our production fleet,” said Dan Haller, Head of Commercial at Oerlikon AM.

Oerlikon plans to invest in additional xBUILD 5000 machines from 2027 to support anticipated growth.
Matthias Himmelsbach, CEO of ATLIX, added, “Together, we are proving that metal AM can deliver at true industrial scale.”
