MPIF holds its 60th annual Basic Powder Metallurgy Short Course

The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) reports that it recently completed its 60th annual Basic PM Course at State College, Pennsylvania, USA. Over 45 attendees were provided with an overview of the Powder Metallurgy industry, covering a broad introduction to Powder Metallurgy history, current practices, and the industry’s future.
Presentations ranged from powder production for press & sinter, Metal Injection Molding, and metal Additive Manufacturing materials to forming, compaction, and other consolidation methods, to sintering and furnace design, to secondary operations, and everything in between to ensure excellent products.
Other supporting topics included a review of test and material standards, testing and characterisation of powders, metallographic analysis, PM lubricants, conventional PM tool design, and an introduction to refractory and hard metals. The course also included a tour of the Penn State Center for Innovative Materials Processing through Direct Digital Deposition (CIMP-3D) Lab. Attendees also enjoyed a cocktail reception networking event.
