MELD receives innovation award

MELD Manufacturing Corporation, Christiansburg, Virginia, USA, was presented with an Innovation Award for its patented MELD® technology, a scalable, no-melt method for the AM of large metal parts, at the TechConnect World Innovation Conference & Expo in Washington, DC, USA.
As a 2021 TechConnect Innovation Awardee, the company’s CEO Nanci Hardwick took to the stage to share the company’s story and technology, including how the company believes its technology may transform metal Additive Manufacturing into a scalable industrial tool.
Machines that utilise MELD are their own category of AM process, as a solid-state AM process that does not use metal powder or melt the metal being additively manufactured. Instead, the process uses high speed and friction to create enough flow in the material to combine it and create parts that are reportedly fully dense, mimicking forged parts.
