Materials Week USA deferred to 2027 amid global industry pressures

The organiser of Materials Week USA, originally scheduled for October 27–29, 2026, at Huntington Place in Detroit, Michigan, has announced that the event will now take place in 2027. The postponed edition will take place at the same venue in Detroit from October 26–28, 2027.
Event organiser OmniChain Nexus attributed the decision to several factors affecting the advanced materials and manufacturing industries, including the US–Iran war, higher oil and fuel prices, uncertainty surrounding US tariffs and cross-border trade, and changes to US visa requirements.
These factors are said to have affected exhibitor confidence, freight and travel budgets, corporate approvals and the ability of international participants to plan for the event.

The company cited the military action in Iran that began in February 2026 and subsequent disruption to the Strait of Hormuz as contributing to higher energy costs. It stated that US Energy Information Administration data showed Brent crude rising from $61 per barrel at the beginning of 2026 to $118 at the end of the first quarter. Diesel and jet fuel prices also increased, affecting freight, manufacturing logistics and international travel.
OmniChain Nexus also cited continuing trade uncertainty. It stated that the US Department of Commerce reported tariffs of 50% on the full value of qualifying steel, aluminium and copper articles, and 25% on qualifying derivative articles. According to the company, a Q1 survey by the National Association of Manufacturers found that 70.6% of respondents identified trade uncertainty as a leading challenge, while 63.3% reported increased supply-chain volatility. It added that 54.6% relied on Canada, Mexico or both for critical supply chain activity.
Changes to US visa requirements were also cited as a factor. OmniChain Nexus stated that, since October 2025, most non-immigrant visa applicants have been required to attend an in-person interview, subject to limited exceptions. It added that guidance issued in July 2026 directs applicants to schedule interviews in their country of nationality or residence and advises that applications made elsewhere may involve longer waits.
“Deferring Materials Week USA has been one of our toughest decisions,” stated Alexander Oliver, Managing Director of OmniChain Nexus. “The US-Iran war, oil-price shock, tariffs and tighter visa rules are compounding one another. Our responsibility is to deliver the international exhibitors, buyers and decision-makers our customers were promised – not simply to open the doors.”

Exhibitor bookings transferred to 2027
OmniChain Nexus stated that existing exhibitor bookings and payments will be transferred to Materials Week USA 2027. Exhibitors will retain their existing booth size, position on the floor plan and agreed rate, with other booking details and commercial terms unchanged.
The company stated that the additional planning period will be used to increase international participation and develop the event’s buyer programme.
Four exhibitions added for 2027
The 2027 edition is planned to expand Materials Week USA from six to ten co-located exhibitions with the addition of M-Tech LIVE, MatMach Live, FoamConnect and CeramicSupply.
These will join Silicone Expo USA, The Magnetics Show USA, The Gasket & Seals Show, Tape & Functional Film Expo, High Performance Alloys Expo and Speciality Polymers World.
The combined events will cover advanced materials, machining, processing and manufacturing technologies.
“By moving to 2027 and expanding to ten focused exhibitions, we can protect existing relationships, give international companies greater planning confidence and deliver a stronger event across the materials manufacturing value chain,” stated Oliver.
