Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc., headquartered in San Diego, California, has purchased an AMCM M 8K metal Additive Manufacturing machine. The machine, developed by AMCM, the customisation specialist of EOS, will be installed at Kratos’ Indiana Payload Integration Facility (IPIF) in Odon, Indiana.

Kratos selected the AMCM M 8K to address the growing requirements for exceptionally large metal AM applications. The AMCM M 8K features a build volume of 800 x 800 x 1,200 mm with eight 1.2 kW beam shaping lasers for large scale Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) production.

“The capability we get from bringing the AMCM M 8K to the Indiana Payload Integration Facility will give us the flexibility, precision, and responsiveness to rapidly field the most advanced hypersonic systems,” said Mike Johns, Senior Vice President of Kratos SRE.

“As we change the paradigm on low-cost, high-cadence hypersonic testing for programs like MACH-TB, this type of capability is critical to achieve the goal.”

The AMCM M 8K is expected to play an important role in helping Kratos meet the evolving demands of future hypersonic development and production programs. “Kratos is making a significant investment in the future of aerospace and defence manufacturing, and we’re proud they’ve chosen AMCM technology to help support that vision,” commented Martin Bullemer, Managing Director of AMCM. “The M 8K was built for exactly these kinds of applications, large, complex parts where scale, precision, and process reliability all matter.”

Once installed, the machine is expected to expand the facility’s capabilities in support of advanced payload integration, hypersonic programs, and other national security initiatives within the defence and aerospace ecosystem .

“The defence industry is increasingly looking for ways to manufacture larger, more complex components faster and more efficiently,” said Glynn Fletcher, President of EOS North America. “Kratos’ decision to invest in the AMCM M 8K demonstrates both the growing maturity of Additive Manufacturing and the importance of building advanced production capacity domestically.”
