GKN Sinter Metals hosts collaborative Additive Manufacturing workshop

GKN Sinter Metals has reported that experts from the automotive and manufacturing technology industries came together at a recent workshop held at its Innovation Center in Radevormwald, Germany. Over two days, participants discussed the possibilities and opportunities this rapidly changing market presents with leading experts from the AM industry.

“There is no stopping the advancement of metal AM. We all agree on this future technology’s huge potential. But on the threshold of series production, we must carefully consider the pros and cons in each and every case. We are happy to support our partners and customers in this process,” stated Ümit Aydin, GKN’s Global Business Director Additive Manufacturing.

GKN’s Innovation Centre houses the company’s MetalFAB1m, a metal Additive Manufacturing machine used for series production of design-optimised parts for automotive engines and transmissions.

Workshop participants were asked to bring parts with them for a ‘Part Screening’ process in order to highlight both the technical and commercial aspects of potential AM manufacturing. “The know-how provided by EOS GmbH, the global market and technology leader in the area of AM series production, perfectly complemented our design and material expertise. This bundling of expertise and experience is absolutely unique on a pioneer market that is changing so rapidly,” added Aydin.

GKN Sinter Metals plans to hold a further AM Consulting Day in the first quarter of 2017.
