GKN Powder Metallurgy expands into plastic AM with acquisition of Forecast 3D
October 25, 2019
GKN Powder Metallurgy has acquired Forecast 3D, a specialist in plastic Additive Manufacturing. The acquisition is expected to further GKN Powder Metallurgy’s ambition to achieve “global market leadership” in industrialising AM.
Forecast 3D, headquartered in Carlsbad, California, USA, was founded in 1994 and offers metal AM in addition to its specialist services in plastic AM. Its experience in polymers will now be added to GKN’s metal AM production capabilities.
Corey Weber, CEO and co-founder of Forecast 3D, stated, “At Forecast 3D, our roots run deep in the world of nimble, low-volume polymer Additive Manufacturing. As we continue to branch out and focus on high-volume additive production, what better partner to pair with than GKN; a company that produces over 13 million parts per day?”
Both GKN Powder Metallurgy and Forecast 3D are foundational partners in HP Inc.’s Digital Manufacturing Network, and have been early adopters of HP’s AM machines. Christoph Schell, President, HP 3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing, stated, “There is enormous opportunity for growth in 3D printing and it is exciting to see GKN and Forecast 3D come together to push the boundaries in both metals and plastics mass production.”
