ampower GmbH & Co KG, a new consultancy firm focusing on the Additive Manufacturing sector, has been established in Hamburg, Germany. The start-up announced its official launch in March, 2017 and will offer consulting, implementation and qualification services in Additive Manufacturing to small and medium sized businesses. The company will employ a team with a combined experience of over twenty years in Laser Beam Melting (LBM) and Electron Beam Melting (EBM) Additive Manufacturing processes.

According to ampower, the decision to found an AM consulting business comes from the knowledge gap commonly reported in the AM industry between machine manufacturers and end users, especially with regard to qualification and certification in manufacturing processes. ampower says it aims to close this gap and reduce the entry barrier for companies that want to invest in the technology or expand their manufacturing business into AM production.

Matthias Schmidt-Lehr, one of ampower’s three managing partners, stated, “Until now, companies had to build up necessary knowledge on their own. This can take several years and create high costs. Having done this successfully in industry multiple times, we can reduce the time for implementation, increase the quality of the manufactured parts and overall reduce the cost for the end user.”
