Mesago Messe Frankfurt GmbH, the organisers of formnext powered by tct 2017, have announced the introduction of a new seminar series aimed at newcomers to Additive Manufacturing technology. ‘discover3Dprinting’, a two-hour presentation program, will be held on all four days of formnext 2017 and is geared toward developers, CEOs and other decision-makers – particularly those from small and midsize companies – interested in learning more about how they might make use of additive technology.

discover3Dprinting is being held in cooperation with the Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing (ACAM). Dr Kristian Arntz, Center Director, stated he believes that midsize industrial companies, in particular, require more information about AM adoption than is currently available. “Industrial 3D printing is breaking through in many sectors and applications, but firms often don’t know enough about the specialised uses, unit quantities, and areas in which these new methods really pay off,” he explained.

“To succeed with AM technology and ultimately turn a profit, you have to adopt a different, more ‘additive’ mindset,” added Christoph Stüker, Project Manager for discover3Dprinting at Mesago. “That means coming up with lighter designs, integrating functions, and opting for complete assemblies rather than individual functional components, for example.”

As well as offering a sound overview of the technologies involved, discover3Dprinting will reportedly support the adoption of this ‘additive mindset’ through discussion of practical approaches to assessing the cost of sourcing AM equipment, integrating it into existing production processes, and accounting for all factors in play during corresponding implementations.

The two-hour program will feature talks by experts from ACAM, who will use real world examples to demonstrate where AM has proven useful and where problems may arise.

The seminar series will be held in the am4u area (Hall 3.0, Booth H50) from 9:30-11:3AM daily, in both German (Tuesday and Thursday, 14/16 November) and English (Wednesday and Friday, 15/17 November). All formnext attendees can take part in discover3Dprinting free of charge.
