Elementum 3D awarded AFWERX contract for permeable Additive Manufacturing
March 4, 2025
Elementum 3D, based in Erie, Colorado, USA, announced that it has been awarded a $74,994 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract focused on permeable Additive Manufacturing (PermiAM) by AFWERX, the innovation arm of the Department of the Air Force (DAF) and a directorate within the Air Force Research Laboratory.
The PermiAM technology enables design simplification and cost savings by combining regions of controlled permeability with fully dense structures within the same component.
The Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX have partnered to streamline the SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) process by accelerating the small business experience through faster proposal-to-award timelines, working to extend opportunities to small businesses and eliminating bureaucratic overhead by continually implementing process improvement changes in contract execution.
The DAF began offering the Open Topic SBIR/STTR programme in 2018, which expanded the range of innovations the DAF funded.
