Barnes Group Advisors & SLM Solutions sign MoU on Additive Manufacturing training

January 7, 2019

The Barnes Group Advisors, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with metal Additive Manufacturing equipment provider SLM Solutions North America. The scope of the agreement includes the two companies working together to promote and offer Additive Manufacturing training to help safely support and push the industry forward. Both parties stated that they hope to bridge the current AM knowledge gap and help customers feel more confident investing in AM hardware.

The Barnes Group Advisors will deliver AM training courses designed around key industry standards to SLM Solutions’ customers and contacts. SLM Solutions’ goal is to equip potential customers with the ability to make better informed purchasing decisions by ensuring comprehensive training is available during the sales process. The Barnes Group Advisors will offer several courses, including Discover AM (an essentials course), Focus AM (a technology & materials course), Accelerate AM (a design course) and Empower AM (a business and economics course).

Custom class offerings on topics including CT inspection and specialised metal powder training will also be available for SLM Solutions’ current customers, to offer an increased return on their investment and to help further accelerate the adoption of new AM applications. The Barnes Group Advisors will also provide support to SLM Solutions’ customer development projects as needed.

Aaron LaLonde, Director of Applications Engineering at SLM Solutions North America, stated, “Increasingly, we see the need to help contacts not only develop their application for the machine, but first develop their entire internal business case to take the investment leap into metal AM. By partnering our machine expertise with the industry leaders at The Barnes Group Advisors, we are able to lower the barrier to entry and shorten the learning curve for success with selective laser melting for our customers.”

“Metal Additive Manufacturing is quickly growing and industrialising, and we believe we can help with some of the critical activity this acceleration requires, including providing comprehensive AM training,” added John Barnes, Managing Director, The Barnes Group Advisors. “Our main goal is to see the industry and the users continue to grow, and continue to grow safely.”
