As part of an ongoing internationalisation strategy, the Austrian technology platform for Additive Manufacturing (AM-Austria) has met with leading stakeholders from the United Arab Emirates to discuss cross-border collaborations.

After Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, VP and Prime Minister of the UAE, announced a national Additive Manufacturing strategy in 2016, the UAE has become a major actor in AM in the Middle East, making it a logical collaborator for AM-Austria. International collaborations like this aim to initiate a fruitful exchange, strengthen the two countries’ position in the AM sector, and further develop AM technologies.

In late 2021, Dr Johannes Homa, president of AM-Austria, was led by the founder and CEO of the Network Development Hub GmbH (NDH) Naveed Syed and its Advisor Dr Saeed Al Dhaheri on a tour of potential collaborators within the UAE. Dr Homa discussed potential collaboration opportunities with a number of organisations, including:

  • Sharjah Research Technology Innovation Park
  • Dubai Future Foundation
  • University of Dubai
  • Khalifa University
  • Mubadala Aerospace
  • Digital Dubai Authority
  • SmartWorld
  • Expo2020

Both countries have expressed their intention to discuss specific strategies to start collaboration as quickly as possible as a next step after AM-Austria reported positive initial responses.
