Aurora Labs Limited (A3D), based in Canning Vale, Australia, has obtained a manufacturing contract with Sovereign Propulsion Systems Pty Ltd (SPS), an Australian defence manufacturer that specialises in unmanned aerial systems (UAS) platforms. Under this contract, A3D will take on a significant role in designing and additively manufacturing high-resolution, lightweight components.

These components are crucial for prototype autonomous systems, and will be produced at A3D’s advanced AM services bureau in Perth, using locally developed Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) machines.

CEO Rebekah Letheby shared, “This printing services contract is a great entry into the defence industry. It serves as a platform to spotlight our extensive operational experience, specifically in delivering 3D bespoke designed and printed lightweighted components tailored to the exacting standards of the defence industry.”

“Our dedicated team will be providing an end-to-end printing service which holds a wealth of engineering expertise specifically targeted for metal AM printing processes. In collaboration with this customer, we anticipate an opportunity to prove our capability, and establish a lasting presence in the defence industry,” Letheby added.

Although the initial purchase order is for AUD $60,000, the company sees this contract as a gateway into a broader market. This market has been the focus of the company’s strategic business development efforts for the past year.
