Article addresses saturation in binder jet Additive Manufacturing
July 5, 2022

As metal Binder Jetting (BJT) transitions from technology for the future to technology for now, one of the basics of the process that experienced users and newcomers alike must come to grips with is saturation. This is the primary driving variable used when executing the manufacturing step required to make ‘green’ parts in BJT, and, while simple to understand in principle, can be difficult to understand in practice.
In the June 2022 issue of PIM International, Binder Jetting expert Dan Brunermer, of technology consultancy B-jetting LLC, published a deep dive into saturation in BJT. Brunermer’s hand-illustrated, informative article outlines:
- The basic steps of BJT AM
- What saturation is, and some basic units of measure
- What voxels are, and how they are defined
- Binder nozzle geometries, and how they relate to voxels
- Control options, and how the control choices made can affect the saturation options.
