Additive Manufacturing consultancy Ampower, based in Hamburg, Germany, has released its 2025 Additive Manufacturing market report. The report analyses global industry developments in 2024 and provides an outlook for the next five years based on supplier and buyer expectations.

Amid a globally challenging environment, the industrial metal and polymer Additive Manufacturing market combined saw only a modest revenue increase of around 2 %, signaling a pause in growth, stated Ampower. The metal Additive Manufacturing market declined by 2.9% in 2024, however, in contrast, the polymer AM market grew 4.4% year-over-year.

Customers reduced spending as a broader downturn in production impacted the AM sector. Ampower noted contributing factors, including economic uncertainty, rising global tensions and conflicts, multiple elections leading to changes in administrative policies, and fluctuations in the energy market.

Material consumption continued to rise in the double-digit range, however, indicating ongoing demand for AM applications. By the end of 2024 and into early 2025, many suppliers reported a significant uptick in business as delayed projects began to resume. Ampower believes that this boost suggests that the slowdown was only temporary and that growth in the AM market could soon accelerate. The outlook for 2025 points to a recovery driven by renewed demand and ongoing innovation, offering an opportunity for market growth.

According to the report, buyers and suppliers of Additive Manufacturing maintain an optimistic outlook, projecting substantial yet slightly reduced growth for the industry in the coming years and a continuous adoption in an ever-increasing number of industrially important applications.

“The defence sector in the US and China have driven AM advancements in recent years,” stated Dr Maximilian Munsch, co-author and partner at Ampower. “As the European defence market awakens in the light of recent political shifts, new opportunities will arise for the European AM market.”

The medical and dental sectors have continued as pillars of the AM industry, together accounting for approximately 20% of total revenue. With the growing global population gaining access to medical care such as dental services, manufacturing capacity will need to expand to meet demand.

Methodology

‘The AMPOWER Report 2025’ is based on over 300 personal interviews. The respondents are typically the respective Additive Manufacturing managers or directors with insight into the technological as well as commercial activities.

The total number of data points of this year’s report data acquisition exceeds 44,400. The equipment OEM responding to the AMPOWER Report questionnaire represent about 90% of the globally installed base. In addition to suppliers, particular emphasis was placed on interviewing users to enable a demand-oriented evaluation of future market developments.

In addition to the market analysis, the report contains articles from guest authors who discuss the development of the AM market in individual regions.

Launch

Ampower will host an online release event on April 2 at 4pm CET. During the event, the company’s experts and leading authors Dr Maximilian Munsch and Timo Führer will share report-exclusive findings and answer questions about the 2024 market and future outlooks.
