America Makes and FDA partner to support US health sector during COVID-19 crisis

America Makes, Youngstown, Ohio, USA, the USA’s National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, reports that it is partnering with its member, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to help ensure the Additive Manufacturing industry can effectively and safely meet the needs of America’s health care workers during the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
According to the institute, this effort will connect the capabilities of the AM industry with the specific needs of health care providers via an online repository: www.americamakes.us/covid-19. The site will reportedly record necessary information from both the Additive Manufacturing industry and health care providers, and eventually include a pathway for designs to be uploaded for review to ensure they meet medical standards, and downloaded for use in production.
Managed by the USA’s National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM), America Makes wrote in its response statement, “As the Department of Defense Manufacturing Innovation Institute for additive manufacturing, America Makes’ mission is to drive collaboration in our industry to meet the needs of the US government and manufacturing base. This mission couldn’t be more clear today with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and pending supply shortages throughout the US. We believe this repository will play a critical role in meeting the needs of front line health care workers.”
