Dr Astrid Rota appointed Managing Director of Additive Manufacturing at Kurtz Ersa

Kurtz GmbH & Co KG, located in Kreuzwertheim, Germany, has announced that Dr Astrid Rota has taken over the management of the Additive Manufacturing division of the Kurtz Ersa Corporation. The division specialises in building metal Additive Manufacturing machines, including its entry-level model Alpha 140 as well as the Kurtz Ersa Flying ray, which is used for the production of large parts.

Dr Rota graduated from the University of Karlsruhe (KIT) with a Diplom-Ingenieur and obtained her Dr-Ing from the University of Bremen in the Department of Production Technology, focusing on Powder Metallurgical Process Development. For over ten years, Dr Rota worked at Fraunhofer IFAM in Bremen, where she developed innovative manufacturing technologies using powder metallurgy. Her work primarily involved strategic and market-oriented research and development for industries such as medical technology, energy, and automotive.

Dr Rota also served as the director of an internal start-up focused on energy storage solutions at SGL Carbon, achieving sustainable commercial success. In her current role as Head of Metal Process Technology at EOS, a leading provider of industrial Additive Manufacturing solutions, she oversees the development of metallic materials and processes. Together with her team, she defines the hardware and software requirements for new equipment.

Dr Rota has extensive technical knowledge in metal Additive Manufacturing: She reportedly played a key role in the development of the Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) technology, where she worked to identify opportunities for product improvement as a strategic enabler of future development. Leveraging these years of expertise, it is believed that she will make a profitable contribution to the Additive Manufacturing division at Kurtz Ersa.
