SLM Solutions to showcase Additive Manufacturing at Tire Technology Expo
February 13, 2017
SLM Solutions Group AG, Luebeck, Germany, will showcase its Additive Manufacturing technology intended for the production of mould segments for tire treads at the Tire Technology Expo 2017 in Hanover, Germany, February 14 – 16, 2017. The company will demonstrate the entire process chain of generative manufacturing, from data generation to the forming process, powder recovery and recycling.
Additive Manufacturing can be used in tire production for the manufacture of both sample and serial mould segments for tire treads. Through increasing competitive pressures the tire industry is forced to utilise all opportunities to increase efficiency and one such opportunity is Additive Manufacturing.
In his conference presentation ‘Metal 3D printing technology (SLM) for serial production of tire molds’ (Tuesday, February 14, at 14:40h) Ralf Frohwerk, Global Head of Business Development of the SLM Solutions Group AG, will show manufacturers how they can profit from AM technology.
The focus of the speech will be based around the necessity of improved traction on wet surfaces. Frohwerk, will also prove that the production of new mould segments for tire treads using AM technology is faster, more exact and highly cost effective. AM technology also enables the creation of new tire tread moulds using the free design possibilities of three-dimensional geometries.
The layer-by-layer process using fine metal powders allows the construction of delicate tire blades directly during the AM process, said to be a great improvement in comparison to the conventional process where tire blades have to be integrated individually.
SLM Solutions Group will be exhibiting at booth 4064 in hall 2.
