3D Formtech expands metal AM capacity with Nikon SLM500

3D Formtech, based in Jyväskylä, Finland, has purchased a Nikon SLM500 metal Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) Additive Manufacturing machine as part of an expansion of its metal AM capacity. The company stated that the new machine will support series production of aluminium parts.
The SLM500 has a build envelope of 500 × 280 × 365 mm and is equipped with four lasers. According to 3D Formtech, it is the first four-laser metal AM machine in use in Finland and represents the company’s largest investment to date.
3D Formtech stated that demand for aluminium is increasing, driven by applications requiring a combination of low weight and durability.

“Our goal is to meet this demand in Finland and abroad and streamline the series production of aluminium parts, making manufacturing more cost-effective,” said Toni Järvitalo, founder and Chief Executive Officer of 3D Formtech.
“We want to further strengthen our leading position in the market and be the best partner for our customers in 3D printing of both plastic and metal. High-quality equipment is an excellent foundation for this, and we take care of the rest with first-class expertise,” added Järvitalo.
