ANSI and America Makes launch new resources for tracking AM standards

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and America Makes have launched two resources for identifying and tracking Additive Manufacturing standards: a searchable online standards database and the September 2026 Gaps Progress Report.
Both resources were developed through the Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC), which is jointly led by ANSI and America Makes. They provide information on existing standards, work in progress, and identified standardisation gaps.

Searchable AM standards database
The new Additive Manufacturing Standards Database, hosted on the ANSI website, enables users to identify standards activity across the Additive Manufacturing lifecycle, industry sectors, and standards-developing organisations.
Users can search by keyword and filter results by criteria such as material, process, and standard type. Access is free following completion of an online form, and the database is expected to be updated regularly.
The database draws on information used in the AMSC roadmap and gaps progress reports, public calls for comment, and research into publicly available information, including standards developers’ work programmes.
The Additive Manufacturing Standards Database is accessible here.
September 2026 gaps progress report
The September 2026 Gaps Progress Report provides updates on five of the 141 standardisation gaps identified in the AMSC’s Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing, Version 3.0.
The roadmap was developed with input from approximately 300 experts from federal agencies, national laboratories, standards-developing organisations, industry, and academia. The September update identified no new gaps.
The progress report is intended to be updated periodically as standards work advances until the AMSC publishes the next version of its roadmap. The next progress report is anticipated in April 2027.

The Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC) Gaps Progress Report is available here.
“Additive Manufacturing is moving fast, and the standards that support it have to keep pace,” stated Christine Bernat, director of standards facilitation at ANSI. “Through the AMSC, we’re bringing the AM community together to see the full picture – what’s in place, what’s in progress, and where to focus next.”
