ACOUXIA brings AI acoustic monitoring to advanced manufacturing

Automation Acoustics, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, has announced the launch of ACOUXIA, a self-service software suite that enables users to build custom AI models to detect unique process-specific acoustic emissions.

According to the company, every process and every fault emits a unique acoustic signature. ACOUXIA uses these signatures to provide real-time detection and classification of critical issues. The AI models are generated through a seven-step workflow that identifies and classifies the sounds most relevant to each process.

With acoustic emissions regarded as valuable intellectual property by manufacturers, ACOUXIA is reported to deliver highly relevant data streams that enhance productivity and capability across multiple advanced manufacturing processes such as Directed Energy Deposition (DED), Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) and Cold Spray.

“Our new entity ACOUXIA is the culmination of eight years’ work with leading global manufacturers across multiple advanced manufacturing techniques,” stated Anthony Lele, CEO. “Our approach has always been very collaborative, to understand and get to the very heart of what really matters to our customers. Armed with that understanding, we go about listening and labelling real manufacturing acoustic data and turn that into knowledge and critical insights that empower production decisions and outcomes.”

ACOUXIA’s AI models only interpret the acoustic emissions they have been trained on, ignoring all other noise. The resulting data streams can then be integrated into OEM hardware and digital smart manufacturing platforms.

The software provides real-time alerts when critical issues occur, helping to improve production consistency, traceability and optimisation. OEM equipment with ACOUXIA embedded can be expanded to include end-user subscriptions for multi-model process monitoring.

ACOUXIA is already deployed globally on factory floors and integrated with selected OEM partners, Automation Acoustics added. The company is also partnering with additional suppliers of advanced manufacturing equipment to integrate ACOUXIA and plans to make subscription services available to existing users of compatible equipment.
